ALTMAT: (Alternative Materials in Road Construction) European Commission DG VII 4th Framework programme Objectives:
The ultimate objective is to define methods by which the suitability of alternative materials for use in road construction can be evaluated under appropriate climatic conditions. The methods will cover the mechanical properties, functional requirements, leaching potential and long term stability of the materials.
Secondary objectives include determining the mechanisms and rates of release from selected alternative materials in road construction by means of climate chamber and lysimeter tests and inspection of existing road construction, preparation of a specification for future full scale trial embankments, comparison of pollution potential with that from sources such as road traffic and suggestion of mitigation measures which could be employed to enable the use of alternative materials.x

Centre for Research & Technology Hellas Institute for Solid Fuels Technology & Application The aim of this action is to promote the utilisation of fly ash by the small-medium enterprises of the West Macedonia Prefecture and the wider region. Fly ash is being produced by the lignite-fired power plants of the Public Power Corporation of Greece and this action can lead to the development of new products, the improvement of existing ones as well as to finding new uses of this material in commercial activities.x TEFRA
CIRIA CIRIA is a UK-based research association concerned with improving the performance of all involved with construction and the environment. CIRIA works with industry to develop and implement best practice, leading to better performance. CIRIA’s independence and wide membership base make it uniquely placed to bring together all parties with an interest in improving corporate and site performance. Contractors, clients, designers, regulators, financiers and government are all regularly involved in CIRIA’s programme of activities.x CIRIA
European Committee on Normalization (Committee European du Normalization) The mission of this web site is to make promotional and general information about CEN accessible on the Internet in order to contribute to improving the visibility and the transparency of European standardization.x CEN
ISCOWA ISCOWA is an international organization which was formed in 1992 to promote and coordinate the exchange of information regarding the environmental and technical aspects of construction with industrial by-products. Industrial by-products include residues from industrial processes, such as flue gas desulphurisation sludge, metallurgical slags, power plant, and municipal and hazardous waste incinerator fly ashes, bottom ashes, foundry sand, blasting grit, mine tailings, as well as demolition wastes, soils contaminated by industrial activities, and stabilized or treated residues and soils, etc..x N/A

Road and Transportation Research Association (Germany) The Road and Transportation Research Association (FGSV) is a non-profit organization with members from both engineering and scientific background. It was founded in 1924. The main aim of FGSV is to promote and foster research and development throughout the entire road and transpiration sector. This is achieved by an effective cooperation of administration, industry and science. They nominate a total of more that 2,100 experts to a wide range of commissions, committees and task groups.x FGSV
Welcome to Leaching: European Network for Harmonization of Leaching/ Extraction Tests The use of leaching test methods for assessing environmental impact and for assessing uptake in organisms is increasing in different areas - waste treatment and disposal, incineration of waste, burning of waste fuels, soil clean-up and reuse of cleaned soil, sludge treatment, use of compost from different sources, use of secondary raw materials in construction. Already a large number of leaching tests are available. A further increase of leaching tests in the different fields without a proper evaluation of their mutual relationships is undesirable from a regulatory point of view and undesirable for industry. In view of these developments harmonization of leaching tests is needed.x N/A
